As a classically trained artist, I learned how to paint like the old masters. I love the psychology in the portraits of Rembrandt and the way he is focused on the lights. Low-key or chiaroscuro is his ‘brand’. The portrait of Aisha is also painted low-key. The emphasis is on dark blue, with yellow and the mix of those makes green as you see a limited palette.
Aisha loves the British series Gentleman Jack and I have painted her as such. She always organised evenings with women dressed like Gentleman Jack as the series was on TV. It was an honour to paint Aisha’s portrait this way; it depicts her strength, determination and the way she is conquering the world.
