Karin Merx is a Netherlands-based, classically trained portrait painter, Art Historian (MA), and cultural philosopher (BA). She creates portraits that merge Old Master craftsmanship with contemporary boldness, works that breathe with colour, empathy, and presence.
Her paintings are intimate stories. They reveal what is often unseen: inner strength, identity, and the quiet truths that make us who we are. Every portrait becomes both a mirror and a window, showing the sitter anew while expanding the viewer’s perception of human beauty, unity, and transformation.

How long does a portrait take?
Usually 8–12 weeks, depending on size and complexity.
Can a portrait be made from a photograph?
Yes. While I prefer to work from a live sitting whenever possible, portraits can also be created from photographs. We will select or create the ideal reference together. Live sittings within the Netherlands are included; for sittings outside the Netherlands, travel costs are added.
Do you offer payment plans?
