Karin Merx, 2017, Group portrait grandfather surrounded by his grandchildren, pencil on paper, 42 x 29.7 cm, L. Murrell

What can I say about Karin’s portrait of my family? Basically, she gave me back my father, who I lost last year.

Karin’s artwork is amazing, she completed the entire project from photos, but instead of just copying a picture, she gathered from my memories and learnt about his character. She transferred this into the portrait.

Karin managed to capture my dad’s sense of humour, love for his family and mischievous character. She gave me a portrait that not only looks like my dad, but also makes me feel he is with me every time I look at it.

Karin is an amazing artist. She kept me informed during the whole project. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and it is obvious to all who see the portrait that she put not just her time into it but also her love.

Her drawing skills, capture the person she draws not just the image.

I would recommend Karin to anyone looking for a piece of art. She truly has an amazing gift.

I am very pleased with the work of Karin.
When my brother passed away, he left two rather young children. She managed to not only capture my brothers pictures, but also his personality; she vividly portrayed him thus bringing back fond memories.

It turned out to be a really pretty piece of art with beautiful colouring.
