Karin Merx, 2019, portrait of Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, 50 x 50 cm, oil on Canvas

Her Story Told: It is with permission and pride that I can now publicly reveal the portrait I made of Ms Phyll Opoku-Gyimah. She is co-founder of UK Black Pride, and as a proud African Lesbian, campaigns for the human rights of all LGBTQ+ people of colour, who are facing racism, hate, abuse and sexism on a daily base. Often their own families or communities don’t accept them for who they really are. This is one of the devastating legacies of colonialism. Her coming out after facing personal difficulties has become her passion in life to stand up for those facing so much difficulty. She does this with pride, love and dignity. As a role model, she can show the essence of staying true to who you really are. With the portrait came a book with an illustrated version of her story. The book will be available soon for purchase because it is the wish of MsPhyll Opoku that people who need encouragement, hope and a role model can find that in her story.

If you also want your Story in a beautiful powerful illustrated book, if you also want your portrait painted, then let’s discuss options.
